Affinity groups

Participating in one of the affinity groups at each of the four core days of the congress is an offer for exchange in smaller groups (approx. 7 persons). They are suitable to free us from our filter bubble, to get to know new perspectives & to hear more about the congress from the same people every day. The allocation to an affinity group is done automatically by us with your registration. It is done through a lottery. You can use the groups for what you want: for networking, for content, personal & emotional exchange… We will give you some inspiration at the beginning.

Art for Utopia

A utopia – what does it actually look like? How can it be imagined, experienced or tested? The art and culture programme of the congress will address these questions and create spaces for creating, empathising and empowering. Desirable futures are designed in an artistic way, which should be just, ecological and feasible. Events take place both online and on site in Leipzig.

Awareness

The term “awareness” refers “to being aware, to informing oneself, to be sensitized to certain problems”. In general, it means a respectful and attentive interaction with each other. At the congress “Future for All”, people with the most diverse social positions, diverse experiences and opinions will meet. We are pleased about this diversity and this common learning space.

At the same time, we live in a society that is unfortunately characterized by unequal power relations. People are favoured (privileged) and disadvantaged (discriminated against) on the basis of certain characteristics – whether intentionally or unconsciously.

Awareness is a concept that opposes every form of discrimination, violence and violation of borders. Violating and border-crossing behaviour, such as sexist, racist, homo-, transphobic, ablist or comparable assaults*, will not be tolerated. Those affected are empowered and actively supported in developing their own strategies for dealing with discrimination.

Bar, digital

“The Future” is your social-space outside the official workshops and during the congress also the pub, where you can meet, discuss and get to know each other in the evening. The bar has its own rules and rooms (link to the KG-page) and runs outside the official venueless platform. In this sense: See you in the future!

Big Blue Button (BBB)

BBB is our video conferencing system and integrated into our online platform (–> venueless). All interactive online workshops take place on this platform. Detailed instructions and tips for fruitful video conferences can be found on our congress site (–> congress site, digital) at the Tech Support.

Breakoutraum, BBB

Big Blue Button rooms can be divided into breakout rooms to allow small groups and interpretation.

Book Future for All

In 2019, the –>Laboratory for New Economic Ideas conducted twelve future workshops with almost 200 visionary thinkers in different social areas as part of the project Future for All. Based on these results we organized this congress and wrote the book “Future for All – a vision for 2048”. It will be published in October by oekom under Open Access and can already be pre-ordered (in German only, so far…).

Browser recommendation

In order for the interpretation of the workshops (—> interpreting, BBB & interpreting, streams) to work according to our instructions, we recommend you to download Firefox. Alternatively you can download the Chrome and Chromium extension “Mute Tab Shortcuts” and mute individual tabs with Alt + Shift + M.

Chat-iquette

There are chat rooms both in Big Blue Button and on the online platform venueless. Please use the Big Blue Button chat rooms during events for questions and short comments as well as approval with plus sign + and rejection with minus sign -, and according to the requests of the speakers / moderators. Use an asterisk * to ask for your right to speak. We ask you not to open extra discussions in these chats, but to herefore use the content chat rooms venueless and the private chats BBB venueless. Please contact the tech host if you have problems using them during an event.

Collective assumption of responsibility

Together with all participants of the congress, we would like to openly address discrimination and border-crossing and resolutely oppose such behaviour. There is a sensitized awareness team at the congress. In order to come closer to our goal of a liberated society, however, it is necessary that each individual takes responsibility. Only in the joint confrontation with power relations can we counteract, change and dismantle them.

Communication
Online communication is a particular challenge because the facial expressions and gestures of other people are not or only partially visible.
We ask you:
  • Pay attention to a way of communication that does not degrade, insult or discriminate against other people.
  • If people point out to you that your behaviour is discriminatory, see it as a chance to understand power relations and to emancipate yourself from them.
  • Observe what role you have in discussions. Make sure that your contributions are short and pointed so that everyone feels included. Remember that everything you share requires everyone’s concentration and attention.
  • In your contributions, be careful about the things you take for granted, such as names, terms and abbreviations.
Contribute!

The congress Future for All is based on self-organisation. For this to work well, the active participation of everyone is necessary. Tasks that arise range from serving food and cleaning toilets to material handling and technical support. For most tasks no previous knowledge is required. We wish us to distribute care work in a gender-equitable way.

In the shift schedules below you can sign up for one or more shifts for your selected task. Please come to the meeting point at the beginning of your shift.

Thank you very much for your support!

Congress site, digital

The digital congress site is made up of a multitude of building blocks. On the one hand, we would like to provide the opportunity for orientation on the congress site. On the other hand, we want to restrict the imagination as little as possible for the congress. That’s why we have deliberately kept the site as a secluded area.

Connecting utopias
Connecting Utopias is a format for the cross-strand networking and development of diverse visions. From Wednesday to Friday afternoon from 17.00 to 18.30, we link up contents beyond the workshop horizon.
Daily routine
The congress will start on Tuesday afternoon with a conference kick-off and opening podium. Wednesday to Saturday is always the same: 9.30 – 10.30 morning start, break, 11.00 – 12.30 events, 12.30 – 14.30 lunch break, 14.00 – 14.30 reference groups, 15.00 – 16.30 events, break, 17.00 – 18.30 events, Market of Possibilities and space for networking, 18.30 – 20.00 dinner break, 20.00 – 22.00 evening podiums / Art for Utopia (partly until 24.00). On Sunday, 9.30 – 12.30 is the end of the conference.
See the schedule on this site.
Data protection
For the execution of the congress we are dependent on storing and processing your data. According to the basic data protection regulation, this requires your consent, which we asked for during registration. There will be no commercial use or transfer of your individualized data to third parties. You can revoke your consent to the collection and use of your data at any time by email to info@knoe.org. You can find more information here
Decentralized streaming event
We really want to meet beyond the digital platforms to discuss and exchange ideas. That’s why there are decentralised streaming events in some cities. If you would like to organise such an event, do not hesitate to contact us. If there is an event in your area where you can participate, you can see in this list.

Empowerment rooms for BIPOC and FLINT*

For BIPoC and FLINT*-People° we offer exclusive online rooms where you can meet and network. BIPoC stands for Black Indigenous and People of Color, FLINT* for women, lesbians, inter-, non-binary, trans- and queer people.

Equipment

You will need a digital device to participate in the congress. Ideally a computer (PC) with a camera – small screens can make the operation of the online platform and the chats confusing. Please check your technical equipment before the start of the event: Do the microphone, speakers and camera work? Mute your microphone during the event if you are not speaking. Activate your camera only at low quality to ensure that little bandwidth is used and the terminals of the other congress participants are not overloaded.

Film, photo and sound recordings
  • A sensitive handling of video, photography and sound recordings is important to us for a trustful atmosphere at the conference. There are various reasons why people do not want to be filmed or photographed. We would like to respect this as much as possible. This means in concrete terms: If you want to take pictures in situations involving fewer than 20 people, e.g. in workshops, in small groups, the recognizable persons must be asked for permission beforehand. The same applies to sound and image recordings in digital formats. In the case of large-format recordings in situations involving more than 20 people, as well as at public events during the conference, unsolicited pictures can also be taken. In digital space, unsolicited recordings may only be made if the image and name of a person are not simultaneously recognizable.
  • For the external presentation of the conference, we have invited representatives of the press and a special public relations team that will take photographs and film. The same conditions apply to both.
  • By entering the physical and digital event premises, participants agree to the taking of photographs (under the above-mentioned conditions) and the use of their images and their voices free of charge for image and/or sound recordings made by the organisers or partners in connection with the event. These can then be used digitally or printed for reporting in connection with the conference by the organisers. If a photo shows a recognisable person alone, the organisers and their partners may demand that the photo be removed, if this is still possible.
  • If you would like to send us photos/videos and screenshots taken according to the above rules for our website and social media channels, please send them to the following e-mail address: zfa-presse@riseup.net with the subject [Doku].
  • A photographer and a team of filmers will be on our side to document the congress. The three of them will definitely make themselves noticed if they take part in a closed event. And they will not publish close-ups of people who were not explicitly asked before.
  • However, our documentary team will also be on the road at non-digital events to capture the atmosphere. You will recognize them by their identification and you are invited to point them out if you do not want to be pictured.
  • Screenshots: To show yourself “publicly” to unknown people in digital space via video requires a certain amount of trust. This trust is important so that our shops become a safe place of well-being for everyone involved. Therefore it is of utmost importance that you take screenshots (even if they are only for private use) of the digital workshops only after explicit announcement, in consultation with the speakers and after approval of all participants!
Future Fair

The digital place where participants can get to know the partners of the congress and exchange ideas with them. It will take place from 26 to 29 August from 17.00 to 18.30 hrs. The partner organisations of the congress are in charge of a video room, which works similar to an analogue stand: Participants come by if they are interested in learning more about the work of a particular organisation and are provided with information material, e.g. in the form of digital flyers or brochures, by a contact person.

General events

All podiums, the conference opening and closing as well as the morning openings are open to the public. You do not need to register with the congress or the website unless you want to ask questions and actively participate in discussions.

Hashtags
For contributions and posts with content about the congress on your social media channels, you can use the following hashtags:
  • #FutureForAll- for all content that you want to associate with the congress
  • #Year2048 – you are welcome to use them additionally if they describe utopias and future visions for the year 2048 and beyond.

Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie
The Konzeptwerk, or in English, Laboratory for New Economic Ideas, is the organizer of the congress. We are a political collective working as a professional civil society organization. We stand for a new economy – by all, for all, ecological and social. More information here: https://konzeptwerk-neue-oekonomie.org/english/

Media library
In our media library you will find many art and cultural offers as well as preparation material for some workshops, please have a look.  You can find the media library on the digital congress area.
Media partners
The congress will be promoted by media partners. For more information, see here.
Morning kick-off
We will start the conference days Wednesday to Saturday with a morning kick-off at 9.30 a.m. There will be an input from inspiring speakers, a joint preparation for the day and organisational matters.
Networking

An important aim of the congress is that people from different initiatives and social movements should network, identify common themes and fields of action and thus create possible cross-thematic cooperation. Because we believe that social-ecological transformation is more than just the individual social movements working side by side. Some networking formats are already included in the programme. If you would like to exchange ideas with other groups, get to know  others or make plans, use the daily Open Space and register your event during the congress. See also Connecting utopias! and Affinity groups.

Open Space
In the Open Space on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m., there is still room for your topics & talks, which we could not include in the program, which spontaneously arose or for which you would simply like to continue to talk to other people. You will find detailed instructions on how to offer an Open Space programme or how to participate in it on the digital congress site in the room: Open Space.
Orga team
The congress is organized by the Konzeptwerk Neue Ökonomie together with a grassroots democratic organization circle and many partners. For us, grassroots democratic organisation means that we directly involve all participants in all relevant decisions. The main work is done in different working groups and every 6-8 weeks we all come together at the weekend in a – for given circumstances digital – plenum. You can find an overview of the working groups here.
Participation fee
The congress is financially supported by a number of political foundations as well as church and other organisations. Beyond that, however, participation fees are indispensable. At the same time, we do not want to exclude anyone for financial reasons. We therefore hope that enough participation fees and donations will be collected on a voluntary basis. The main costs of the congress are personnel costs and fees.
Partners
The congress is supported by a broad circle of more than 60 partner organisations from different social areas. You can find an overview here which have been involved in the organisation of the congress. You can get to know these partners on the Future Fair.
Podiums
Different podiums are held every day. The podiums of the strands with different topics are purely digital. For the evening podiums, the speaker* meet in the Zukunftszentrale and their discussion is streamed and transmitted via streaming.
Program formats
There are different program formats at the congress. For more information see Art for Utopia, Future Fair, General Events, Morning Kick-off, Open Space, Podiums and Workshops.
Press

Our press spokeswomen are always available for interview requests and further information. Of course we are also happy to put you in touch with speakers from the programme. In addition, we would like to invite representatives of the press to visit the congress in Leipzig (Zukunftszentrale). The congress press conference will take place on 25.08 at 10 o’clock.

More information can be found here. The press kit (sorry, German only) is here.
Privileges
Our world today and all areas of society are decisively shaped by unequal power relations. These are constantly and everywhere at institutional (e.g. laws, labour market), interpersonal (e.g. exclusion, sexual harassment) and ideological (e.g. norms, values, culture) levels. They lead to preferential treatment (privilege) and disadvantage (discrimination) of people. There are people who, due to their special privileges (e.g. white/male / heterosexual/rich) are in a more powerful position compared to less privileged people. It is true that having privileges does not necessarily mean actively engaging in discriminatory behaviour. However, they can help to disadvantage other people. Often we are not even aware of our privileges, which makes it difficult to deal with each other in a discriminatory way. Therefore we invite you to reflect on your privileges. See also Awareness.
Pronouns
When you enter the room, we ask you to write your pronoun in addition to your name. That way everyone will know how you want to be addressed. Speak to people with the pronoun they have chosen.
EXAMPLES
Selma, he, his / That’s Selma. His name is Selma. Selma is his name.
Ana, ?, ? / This is Ana. Ana is called Ana. Ana is Ana’s name.
Registration
You can register for the congress here: https://contacts.knoe.org/content/registration-future-all
All podiums and major events are streamed publicly. Registration is open to people who want to participate in workshops and other formats, join in discussions at the podiums and have access to the exchange platform and cooperation rooms.
In contrast to most events, we will not allocate workshop places on a first-come-first-served basis, but will draw lots based on your wishes. There are places for everyone, but we will give preference to people who indicate that they belong to a group facing structural discrimination.
Safer spaces
We want the congress to be a discrimination-sensitive space and all participants to feel comfortable and safe. We are aware that it is even more difficult to make a digital space secure and that border crossings can often be faster and more anonymous. There can therefore be no “safe space”. This means that it is all the more important that we all try to create a “safer space” together.
We as the Awareness Team are trying to help create this space at the congress. However, we would like to point out that we cannot offer further professional help, e.g. psychological support.

Self-care

At the congress it is important to keep an eye on one’s own strengths and limits. It is also important to create sufficient space for reflection. Online tires you out faster than physical meetings and concentration decreases faster.

So here are a few tips for good self-care:

  • It can happen that another person crosses your personal boundaries. We encourage you to make these limits clear. If you are not sure, we offer you our support as an awareness team.
  • It makes sense to create a calm environment where everyone can feel well for the duration of the participation.
  • It is important to plan enough breaks between workshops and podiums. During the events, discuss in the group how you would like to organise your breaks.
  • In between, it is a good idea to get some exercise, get some fresh air and relax your mind. Sufficient food and fluids are also important.
Sleeping
We provide couch surfing if necessary. Please write to: zfa-logistik@riseup.net.
Social media
You can find us on the following social media channels:
Also see Hashtags and Film, photo and sound recordings.
Strands
The conference is structured along 15 thematic strands. The following strands are covered in our programme: Agriculture and Food, The Entirety of Work, Digitality, Education, Energy and Climate, Financial System, Freedom of Movement, Global Justice, Housing, Mobility, Organizing Society, Solidarity Economy, Social Guarantees, the world of relationships and Art and Culture. And you can find detailed information on the thematic strands here.
Streaming
Live events (Zukunftszentrale) such as the start of the congress, morning kick-offs and evening podiums will be filmed for you and streamed via our online platform (venueless). Additionally, there will be a stream accessible without congress registration via several YouTube channels. The digital panel discussions (program formats) from the thematic strands (strands) will also be streamed via these two platforms.
Supporters
The congress is supported by a broad circle of more than 60 partner organisations from different social areas. You can find an overview here.
Supporters have co-promoted the congress.
Tech-Hosts
Workshops in the digital space pose special challenges for all participants. We want to ensure that instructors can focus on their workshops and the participants, and that participants can participate well in workshops. Tech hosts should contribute to this. On the one hand, they should be available to answer technical questions from participants in a workshop or podium and support them in solving them. On the other hand, they also help the instructors with very practical things. This includes: opening workshop rooms, managing breakout rooms (open, assign people, close in case of doubt), being the connection to the Awareness group.
Telephone dial-in
If your internet connection is not sufficient to participate in events, you can also dial into our workshops by phone. The dial-in details will be sent to you with your personalized links

Whispered translation

Would you like to support us with the interpretation of some workshops?  That’s great. Feel free to indicate the languages you can interpret in your registration. We will then assign you to the event that still needs interpreting support and inform you by mail. All you need is a headset, a quiet environment and a stable internet connection. Contact: zfa-dolmetsch@riseup.net

Workshops
The main part of the events are workshops. Most of them are digital, some are also live in Leipzig (Live-Events). For the workshops you need a registration. We have done skill-sharings before, so that the workshops are as interactive as possible despite the digital format.
Zukunftszentrale
In the Zukunftszentrale the major events take place live, are filmed and streamed. It is located in the Konsumzentrale, Industriestraße 85-95, where there is also an analogous information point for questions, but no public events.
2048
Why 2048? For our future for all, the key questions are: How do we want to live? And how do we get there? To make major social changes conceivable and feasible, we have to think far into the future – at least one generation. About 30 years seemed like a good time span to us all – and we started planning the project in 2018. Moreover, 2048 will be in line with the revolutionary years 1848, 1918 and 1968.

Donate for a future for all

Our vision for a future for all is based on many shoulders. This applies to organising and funding the congress, too. Find out how you can support us financially here and how you can support in any other way here.
